Slack MCP server: let an AI agent post with approval

Connect Slack's own MCP server once. Your agent searches and reads channels on its own, and each message it wants to post waits for a person.

Set up Slack for an agent that reads and posts

Example: an agent named digest-bot reads channels and posts summaries, which go out in Slack under the name of the person who signed in.

  1. 01 Connect

Add Slack's MCP server and sign in once

Create an internal Slack app, add Slack's server by its address, and sign in to Slack through that app.

    • Slack shows only the tools your app may use, so give it permission to read and to post
    • Meandr keeps the sign-in sealed, and the agent holds only its Meandr key
    MCP Security: sign-in to servers
  2. 02 Tools

Switch on the tools that read, search, draft and post

In the Server catalog, turn on only the Slack tools digest-bot needs.

    • Reading channels and threads, searching messages and saving drafts
    • Sending a message, which the next step holds for approval

  3. 03 Policies

Hold every post for approval and let reads run

Three policies in order: posts to one log channel go straight out, every other post waits for a person, and reads, searches and drafts run on their own.

    • The first policy that matches decides the call
    • Anything none of them covers falls to the Default policy, Deny

  4. 04 Approve

A person reads the message before it posts

The people seated on the Slack posts policy get the request in the console and by email, and open it to see the channel and the full text.

    • They have 15 minutes, and meanwhile the agent is told the post is waiting and can check back
    • Deny, or no answer in time, and nothing reaches Slack

Questions about an MCP gateway for Slack

Does Meandr send approval requests to Slack?
Approval requests arrive in the console and by email; the agent posts to Slack only through Slack's own server.
Can a message in a channel make the agent post somewhere else?
The agent can try, but the post waits for a person, and the record shows what the agent tried to send.
Can posts to one channel skip approval?
Yes: an Allow policy with an Arguments matcher on that channel, placed above the Approve policy, lets those posts through.
Can the agent flood a channel with posts?
Each post outside the log channel waits for a person, and a per-agent rate limit such as 20 calls a minute caps the rest. Calls over the limit never reach Slack and are not billed.
Does the agent need its own Slack user?
The agent uses the OAuth grant you gave the server, and Meandr tells agents apart by their keys.
Does Meandr run the agent on a schedule?
You run the agent in Claude Code, Codex or another client, on whatever schedule you already use.

Let your agent read Slack and ask before it posts

Connect Slack's server once, add one Approve policy on posting, and keep your agent's current client.
